| An inspiration to all who knew her; a positive influence on everyone around her; a determined, energetic, loving, amazing young woman – Rebecca Miolen. In spite, or perhaps, because of the many medical issues that plagued her young years, Rebecca packed more life into her brief 19 years than most people manage to do in 99 years. She left her imprint on all of those who loved her. Her greatest legacy is that she has provided motivation to the other young people to do more, reach higher, and push harder in all aspects of their lives – to make a difference. If Rebecca could do it, we could all certainly give it a try. Rebecca worked hard at perfection. She rode hard, played hard, and strived to do better than the last time she did anything. Her activities in the community were far reaching – from teaching younger 4-Hers horse riding skills to cleaning up dirty rivers. She gave her time and talents unselfishly. She was not only a leader, but a do-er. Her dream of owning a horse came true when she was 12 years old and received a mare from the 4-H Gift Horse Program. The animals sensed Rebecca’s gentleness and caring and she used those traits to work with abused horses, gaining their trust and building their confidence in people again. Her stewardship continued as she raised funds for the Georgia Equine Rescue League and Foal Rescue Program. Her first year at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA was another milestone for Rebecca. She rode on the Rodeo Team during that year, but had to put that on hold due to health problems. Rebecca suffered from a blood disease so rare doctors don’t have a name for it. She had numerous transfusions and tried many various treatments and medications. Having gone through some tough times herself, she seemed to have more compassion than most for the less fortunate. Rebecca died in October 2006. She died doing one of the things she loved most – riding. Now her friends in 4-H want to honor her hard work and determination for life by building a memorial scholarship fund in her name. We will have one of the largest auctions of horse and farm equipment in the area, as one fund-raising activity for the scholarship fund. Please help out with what you can to make this an everlasting memory. |
